What exactly is occupational therapy for children?
Paediatric OT helps children participate in the everyday activities of childhood — from playing and learning to dressing and making friends. OTs assess and treat the physical, cognitive, sensory and emotional skills that underpin these activities. The goal is always more independence, confidence and joy in daily life.
Does my child need a diagnosis to see an OT?
No! You don’t need a diagnosis or a GP referral to book with us. If you have concerns about your child’s development, reach out — we’ll help you figure out if OT is the right path. A GP referral is only needed if you want to claim a Medicare rebate under a Chronic Disease Management plan.
How do I know if my child needs OT?
Trust your instincts. If something feels off — your child is struggling with tasks their peers find easy, getting easily overwhelmed, or having more emotional meltdowns than expected — it’s worth a conversation. Our free checklist is a great starting point.
What does an OT session look like for a child?
Sessions are play-based, fun and tailored to your child. We use games, creative activities and purposeful play to build real skills — children often don’t even realise they’re doing therapy! Parents are included in the process, and we send home practical strategies to use between sessions.
Can we get funding support? (NDIS, Medicare)
Yes! We support families accessing NDIS funding and Medicare rebates (with a GP referral and Chronic Disease Management plan). We’re happy to help you navigate your options — just ask us during your free chat.
